Where Dollars Go

Gifts to the Learning Community Foundation go towards expanding and augmenting the successful programs of the Learning Community of Douglas and Sarpy Counties

The Foundation’s primary goal is to secure private resources to amplify the beneficial impact that the Learning Community’s publicly funded programs have had in the Omaha metro area. With additional funds, proven programs can reach more children and families.

Doing What Works

The Learning Community Foundation is focused on raising funds to support and expand innovative programs that are proving to raise student achievement across the Omaha metro area.

In the Early Childhood space, for example, this includes two-generation programs that work with parents with children from birth to age 8. The Learning Community adds value by encouraging innovation, providing evaluation data of all programs, and facilitating shared learning across eleven school districts. Sharing what works based on independent evaluation of every program benefits children and families across the Omaha metro area.

Because the needs of every community are different, Learning Community opportunities are tailored to meet specific local needs. The Learning Community partnership network brings together the collective strengths of the Omaha metro region to close the opportunity gap. Our network of over 50 community partners bring expertise in community health, trauma-informed care, early childhood education, workforce development and more.

The 2-Gen Difference

The Learning Community two-generation model leads to greater student success by engaging parents. Early childhood education and family partnerships anchor a blend of educational and economic opportunities. As a result of our 2-Gen approach, children and parents move forward together. The Learning Community is part of the Aspen Institute’s ASCEND 2-Generation Network. The U.S. Government Accountability Office and the National Governor’s Association both endorse a 2-Gen approach.
