A STORY OF SUCCESS DURING COVID-19

DIAPERS, WIPES AND FORMULA CAMPAIGN

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Foundation shifted its 2020 focus to meeting the urgent needs of families attending programs at the Learning Community Centers of North and South Omaha. Parents were surveyed in March 2020, and we learned that the greatest immediate need was for diapers, wipes and formula.

Within a few weeks, the Foundation raised approximately $70,000 which provided families with these basic supplies for a 7-month period. Learning Community partners, One World Community Health Centers at the South Center and Project Harmony at the North Center contributed additional funding for these supplies to last for another two months.

Approximately 176 families and 215 children have been served. Families have been extremely grateful. The funding of these supplies has better enabled the parents to continue participating and engaging in Center programming even during the pandemic, albeit remotely.

In The Works

The number of students on free and reduced lunch has grown significantly in the south-central part of the Learning Community.

As part of the Learning Community’s Strategic Plan, a third Learning Community Center is planned. The superintendents of Ralston, Westside, Millard and Papillion-LaVista School Districts are collaborating with the Learning Community to conduct a needs assessment and develop programming based on parent feedback.

The third Center will be located in an area accessible to families from all 4 districts.
